The Arab Watch Club Presents Their First Cartier Limited Edition!

Today in our chat with Hassan Akharas, CEO of the Arab Watch Club in the United Arab Emirates, we were informed about an important achievement, directly resulting from the strong ties between the Arab Watch Club and Cartier. January 24, 2019, is a date to be remembered for the Arab Watch Club’s history. Let’s explain why?

It was the first time the Cartier Middle East CEO and the club members meet over a dinner organized by Cartier UAE for the Arab Watch Club (AWC). It is during this dinner that the seed for this edition has been planted!

Two years later and here the AWC is releasing the first-ever collaboration between Cartier HQ and a Watch Club worldwide. The project was supposed to be completed in June 2020, but of course, COVID19 had another plan for us. Seven months later, the Club is back and this time, they can safely say: We did it!

The idea of a special edition with a luxurious and reputable brand such as Cartier is a goal the management of the Club has had for several years before they started their serious discussions in 2019. The AWC has been involved in over 13 special editions throughout its 5 years since inception and it was the right time to collaborate with La Maison.

Inspiration for this project was drawn from the Santos Dumont 90th. anniversary, that was made from platinum with a very light salmon dial – classy, elegant, and timeless.

This is exactly what they wanted for the Cartier project: A gentleman’s watch, an expression of classiness, an unforgettable statement piece – but most importantly, a FIRST in the watch community: First Watch Club and the First one to achieve this in the region.

You might ask yourself why is this so important for the AWC? the answer is simple: they always wanted to be the club that breaks the barriers, open doors, create opportunities, and lead by example! It is the mark that they would like to leave in the Horological world.

The choice of the watch was also strategic: the Santos is the first men wristwatch to be ever created in 1904 by Louis Cartier; it is an icon in the watch industry and among collectors; there is no better choice than the Santos to commemorate such partnership between Cartier and AWC.

Arab Watch Club ‘Santos de Cartier’

The first two very limited produced models of this special edition are from the Large Santos family; 6 rose- and just 5 white Gold models were produced, both with an ADLC, coated steel bezel with white- or rose gold screws. Case width: 39.8 mm, thickness: 9.08 mm. Water-resistant to 10 bar.

The dial is a unique salmon shade designed for this edition with blue steel hands. 7-sided crown set with a facetted sapphire and the date-ring has the same salmon color as the dial. Alligator or calfskin was chosen for the strap (both options provided), with the easily interchangeable buckle.

The movement is a mechanical movement with automatic winding, caliber 1847 MC. The closed case back with engravings includes “Arab Watch Club”, every collector’s name, and his number of the edition.

Arab Watch Club ‘Santos-Dumont’

The third model of this special edition is the Extra Large Santos-Dumont in Rose Gold with an ADLC coated steel bezel with rose gold screws, produced in a limited edition of just 15 pieces. Manufacture mechanical movement with manual winding, caliber 430 MC by Piaget. 18K rose gold case.

– Santos-Dumont in pink gold –

Case dimensions: 46.6 mm x 33.9 mm, thickness: 7.5 mm. and water-resistant to 3 bar (approx. 30 meters). These are the same dimensions as the ‘Santos-Dumont Demoiselles’.

The dial is a unique salmon shade designed for this edition with blue steel sword-shaped hands, sapphire crystal, beaded crown set with a sapphire cabochon.

– The back of the Santos-Dumont with the engravings –

Grey alligator-skin strap and 18K rose gold pin buckle. The closed case back has engravings including “Arab Watch Club”, every collector’s name, and his number of the edition.

I think it is safe to say that this is quite a goal for the Arab Watch Club. Editions like this are not easy to create with a famous brand like Cartier, but given that La Maison is committed to custom orders, more than ever before, this achievement may open doors for others.

  1. George, excellent article as always.

Limited edition is an understatement with only 15 produced, and with the personal engraving on the case back these are truly bespoken timepieces.

    Bravo.
